How to take and edit your own professional product shots

I have been wanting to do an informed post on taking product shots, but I have read two posts recently that made me want to post the resources I have found so far. Design*sponge posted about how to make your own light box, and liquid paper posted about her new macro lens (I am hoping to get one soon).

We all know that getting a great product shot is very important, the quality of the image including lighting, image crispness, color saturation, professional staging etc... all translate into the way a potential customer feels about the quality of your product. Getting a good macro lens that gives a sharp focus and an atmospheric blurring of the background is good,using a solid background is good for detail shots, also getting diffused lighting (hence the light box), and having a good program (like photoshop) to edit the photos after are important as well.
